Kickboxing and Self-Defense
Cardio that teaches you something useful.
- Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 to 8:30 pm
Fifty minutes of cardio kickboxing built around real self-defense fundamentals. You get the workout, and you leave knowing how to throw a strike that would actually do something. This is also the class most people mean when they ask about women's self-defense.
What you will learn
In this class.
Strikes that work
Punches, elbows, knees and kicks with proper mechanics, on pads and bags rather than in the air.
Escapes from grabs
Wrist grabs, bear hugs, hair grabs and being pinned. Built on natural movements that do not require strength.
Conditioning
A genuine cardio workout. Expect to sweat and to sleep well.
Confidence
Knowing you can hit something hard changes how you carry yourself. This is the effect students mention most.
A typical class
What to expect.
Warm-up, combinations on the bags and pads, a self-defense technique of the day, and a conditioning finisher. Come as you are: there is no fitness requirement and you work at your own level.
Your first class is free. Wear comfortable athletic clothes, bring water, and arrive a few minutes early so we can show you around.
Questions
About Kickboxing and Self-Defense.
Is this a women's self-defense class?
The class is open to everyone, and it is the class we point people to when they ask about women's self-defense. It is also where this studio came from. Shifu Alexis first walked into a women's self-defense class as a student, got hooked on the feeling of empowerment, and eventually opened this school.
Do I need to be fit to start?
No. It is a come-as-you-are class and you set your own intensity. Most people are surprised how quickly conditioning improves.
Do I need gloves?
Not for your first class. Wear athletic clothes and bring water. We will talk about gear if you keep coming.
Try it free.
No pressure and no contract. Come take a real class and see if it fits.
